Arts & Learning Conservatory's Gospel Voices of OC: A Joyous Juneteenth Celebration

ALC's Gospel Voices of OC

Young Audiences affiliate Arts & Learning Conservatory (ALC), based in Costa Mesa, CA, presented Gospel Voices of OC (Orange County) last month to celebrate Juneteenth. The staged performance spotlighted African American accomplishments and excellence through the lens and the influence of gospel music as a source of historical impact and resiliency.

Gospel Voices of OC featured a Black-directed production team, with ALC President and CEO Debora Wondercheck at the helm. Not only was it one of her biggest productions, according to Wondercheck, but it was also one of the most rewarding due to its strong message and impact.

ALC teamed up with Chapman University to present Gospel Voices of OC at Chapman’s Musco Center for the Arts. A cast of over 100 local performers – from singers and dancers to musicians and spoken word artists – brought to life Wondercheck’s vision of a joyous and arts-filled Juneteenth celebration that inspires all people of all ages.
