Now in its fifth year, the Affiliate Development Fund provides an opportunity to help build the capacity of affiliates and the entire YA organization in order to establish ideas that can serve as best practices for the YA network and the field. Additionally the fund encourages and supports innovative strategies in all areas of organizational development for the betterment of the network and the young people we serve.
The Affiliate Development Application review panel met in New York on January 21, 2014. The three adjudicating panelists were: Don Gephardt, Dean Emeritus of the College of Fine and Performing Arts and Professor of Music at Rowan University; Greg McCaslin, New York City based arts education consultant and Beth Vogel, management consultant in arts and culture, arts education and youth development. The panel reviewed 19 proposals and recommended five for ADF awards and four for ASF grants.
After a highly competitive selection process, we are excited to announce the recipients of the 2014 ADF grants! Each of the selected five proposals will be awarded $25,000:
Arts for Learning Indiana – Indiana Teaching Artist Development Initiative
This project supports academic learning to raise the field of teaching artistry through improved learning opportunities and cultivate the next generation of teaching artists.
Young Audiences of Houston – Community Arts Team – Creative Arts Initiative
The goal of this project is to create a unified and equitable plan to ensure that all youngsters in Houston’s Independent School District, the nation’s 7th largest school district, have access to a complete arts education in music, dance, drama and the visual arts.
Young Audiences of Northeast Texas – Arts Integration Training Program for Teaching Artists
This project addresses the need to develop a cadre of local teaching artists who can help advance arts integration in area schools and expand on the arts integration work YA is already doing at Caldwell Elementary Arts Academy.
Arts Partners, Wichita – STEM Learning Through the Arts Research Project, year 2
Building on the success of the project's first year, Arts Partners will continue to design and provide unique STEM Learning through the Arts residencies for fourth and fifth graders in Wichita schools.
Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education (CAPE) – CAPE Documentation Website Project
This project will allow CAPE to revise its current curriculum documentation websites that serve CAPE’s network of teachers, teaching artists and staff as well as policymakers, donors and the general public.
Additionally, this year, Affiliate Support Fund grants in the amount of $3,500 were awarded to four affiliates: YA of Louisiana, YA of Oregon and SW Washington, YA of Northern California and YA of Massachusetts to recognize new pilot initiatives in such areas as strategic planning, artist training, program evaluation and assessment, technology, and board and staff development.
