Indianapolis, Indiana (March 23, 2016) — Arts for Learning, the Indiana affiliate of Young Audiences Arts for Learning, has received a $20,000 LRNG Innovators Challenge Grant from the National Writing Project (NWP). The award, which is given to innovative programs that connect in-school and out-of-school learning, will help support Arts for Learning’s “Creating with Confidence: Design Thinking for Public Art” project with art students from Warren Central High School.
The LRNG Innovators Challenge is a national program supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and John Legend’s Show Me Campaign. The eleven 2015 LRNG award recipients were announced last week at the SXSW Festival in Austin, TX.
According to a press release from the NWP, this year’s application challenged teams of teachers to partner with educators working outside of schools “to create educational experiences that expand the possibilities for learning in schools.” Arts for Learning has partnered with Warren Central High School and the Herron School of Art and Design for the “Creating with Confidence” project.
Arts for Learning is the oldest and largest provider of professional arts in education programs in Indiana. With a roster of more than 60 teaching artists, Arts for Learning provides performances, workshops and residencies to schools, libraries, parks and community organizations. Arts for Learning is an affiliate of the Young Audiences Arts for Learning national network, which serves five million children each year in nearly 9,000 schools and community centers across the country
