YA of Oregon & SW Washington staff accepting the Proclamation
Young Audiences Arts for Learning Week is a celebration of the YA network, but it is also a chance for us to rally together to help ensure arts equity and access for every student in the US. Last week, YA of Oregon & SW Washington staff took to city hall to testify in front of the Portland City Council. They definitely made their case and the proclamation states that “the City of Portland recognizes the critical role that the arts play in the development of young people by fostering creative thinking, grit, collaboration and the 21st-century skills they need to succeed in school, work and life.”
YA of Oregon and SW Washington is the region’s largest and most dynamic arts-in-education nonprofit organization, serving nearly 80,000 kids in over 200 schools annually. They will have a diverse selection of residency programs offered to their schools during YA Week. One of their featured teaching artists, Mark Caporael will be continuing his 10 week visual arts residency program (90 minute classes!) at the Kairos PDX charter school in Portland this Friday.

Throughout the rest of the year, they have a plethora of great initiatives and programs such as the Arts for Learning arts integrated literacy curriculum, Run for the Arts, The Right Brain Initiative, and the new Live S.E.T. (Sound Engineering for Teens) residency program. Congratulations on all your work and the Proclamation!
