Young Audiences, Inc. stands with those calling for equal justice and an end to systemic racism, oppression, and violence impacting black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) across our country.
A core value of Young Audiences, Inc. is that all young people, regardless of their race, background, ability, or zip code, deserve access to a well-rounded and arts-rich education. As the nation’s largest arts-in-education network, we know the audacious capacity of the arts to inspire, inform, and engage youth to strive for a better world. We believe strongly that the empathetic response that emerges from a wider understanding and appreciation of all cultures and communities is central to the development of all young people. By harnessing the power of the arts to amplify the stories and lived experiences of those who are impacted by racial, economic, and gender discrimination, and to help us understand and express injustice, we know that the arts can be an important catalyst for change that is long overdue.
Young Audiences, Inc. has made a long-term commitment to advance Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access policies and practices within our organization and across our national network. Underscoring our dedication and that of our affiliates, these issues are a central focus of our national initiatives and advocacy efforts. Amid recent tragic events and renewed discussion of racial injustice, we affirm these commitments and acknowledge that we all can, and must, do more.
We are deeply proud of our many affiliates that are sharing resources, messages of support, and pledges to do more to support justice and equality in their communities.
At a time when actions and deeds speak louder than words, beginning this year, Young Audiences Inc. will dedicate its affiliate development support to fund programs and initiatives across the national Young Audiences Arts for Learning network that address those students and communities most in need and where stifled voices need to be heard.
We are committed to supporting and collaborating with our affiliates and partners, as well as building new partnerships, to help push this critical work forward.
