YA Week Celebrations: Young Audiences of Virginia has received a Certificate of Recognition from Governor McAuliffe

March 16, 2015 | marcus@ya.org

After months of preparation, National Young Audiences Arts for Learning Week is finally here. To celebrate, every day we will be highlighting festivities from the YA affiliate network. For our first day, we would like to feature Young Audiences of Virginia (YAV) celebrating their 60th anniversary this year.

To kick off their anniversary celebrations, YAV helped organize two major events for YA Week. On Saturday, YAV partnered with the Children’s Museum of Virginia for a full day of arts activities, YAV artist performances, and two professional development sessions.  At the Tidewater Science and Engineering Fair, the Board of Young Audiences of Virginia proudly sponsored the “Young Audience of Virginia Science Fair Award.”  Three certificates and cash awards were presented at the Senior Level (grades 9-12) for students who applied the scientific method to an investigation of an arts related project in any of 16 categories.  The YAV Board was represented by board member Carlton Hardy.

Earlier this month, YAV received two Proclamations: one from the city of Roanoke; another from the city of Norfolk; and a certificate of recognition from the Governor of Virginia, Terry McAuliffe! Congratulations to the staff, teaching artists and board members of Young Audiences of Virginia for 60 years of dedication to the students and families of Virginia. We look forward to all your birthday celebrations throughout the year!
