Arts for Learning Connecticut (YACT) received over $47,000 in grants this past week from the Connecticut Arts Council and the state Department of Economic & Community Development's Office of the Arts. This grant is a part of the larger Arts Catalyze Placemaking- Arts Leadership grant program which awarded nearly 1 million dollars through 42 different individual grants.
This grant will help support YACT's three week summer program, the New Britain, CT Summer Enrichment Experience. This program, created by the New Britain Consolidated School District, combats Summer Learning Loss and YACT will provide some of the arts integrated programing with their highly talented teaching artists. There will be a large variety of arts integrated programs offered for children in grades 1-6 including classes in digital photography, theatre, visual art, rap poetry, and a class that explores brazilian culture and dance. “The Arts Leadership grant program is extremely helpful in assisting us to work with other partners around the state and make true arts integration happen in Connecticut,” said Eileen Carpinella, executive director of Young Audiences Arts for Learning.
Arts for Learning Connecticut is involved in many other programs and collaborations throughout the summer as well, such as a STEAM camp at the PT Barnum Housing Project, the Gear Up Program at Southern CT State University, and a program with the WOW Community Center in Waterbury to bring digital music production classes, movement and science classes, digital painting classes and more to children in grades 1-5 that otherwise may not be able to have these great experiences!
